A Bolder Life

October 18, 2003

This is quite weird. For the last few years, when beggers approached me for money, I could honestly say that I had no cash. I thought that cash was dying as a monetary system. Not true. Try working in the service industry. It's all cash. Quite interesting stuff. Perrin and I are having trouble switching to this cash-based system.

Did you know that when you spend cash you don't accumulate miles? Also, this "cash" requires that you physcially go to the bank if you want to deposit it, there are no electronic transfer options. And where do you put all of this cash? Between the mattresses? In the cookie jar? In you safe behind your artwork? Any suggestions are appreciated because the whole idea of cash is new to me.

Can you pay your whole rent in cash?

yes. well, actually it can vary. if your landloard doesn't want to accept it it is hard to make him but that little fine print on your new (or old) 20's that says "legal tender for all debt's public and private" covers you but be sure to get a reciept.

I think you should put the cash in a metal coffee can in the fridge until the rent is due, that's what my Great-grandma Eastin would recommend. No potential thieves will look in the fridge inside food containers! I don't know that you have a lot of theft in Hawaii, but cash is whole different ball game, it needs a babysitter!

I like the idea of the coffee can too. Just one more thing, the refrigerator could be a bit obvious. Place the can in a sturdy shipping container and mail it to me. That way no one will steal it from you!!

It makes perfect sense to all of us over here. We deal with cash all the time. Especially when we go to BOWL GAMES!!! ( think Holiday...should have been the Rose Bowl )
